FAQ

Why Choose The Nanny Collective Over Childcare.co.uk?

Unlike Childcare.co.uk, which is a directory where families and nannies connect directly, The Nanny Collective offers a personalized, hands-on approach to finding the perfect nanny for your family.

We vet every candidate, conduct thorough background checks, and handle all the screening, so you don’t have to sift through endless profiles. Our expert matchmaking service ensures you’re paired with a professional, reliable nanny who meets your exact needs - saving you time, stress, and uncertainty.

Plus, we provide ongoing support throughout the hiring process and beyond, giving you complete peace of mind.

How long does it take to source a nanny?

The recruitment process typically takes between 4 to 8 weeks, depending on various factors such as  job location, required hours, and specific duties.

While we may be able to introduce suitable candidates quickly, it’s important to consider that some nannies will have notice periods with their current families that they are required to fulfill. Being mindful of this will help ensure a smooth transition when selecting the right candidate for your role.

Do you have to be registered with OFSTED to be a nanny?

No, nannies do not have to be registered with OFSTED to work in the UK. However, registering with OFSTED can be beneficial for both nannies and families.

Benefits of OFSTED Registration:

✔ Families may be eligible for tax-free childcare & vouchers if their nanny is registered.

✔ Demonstrates professionalism and credibility as a nanny.

✔ Requires a DBS check, First Aid certification, and relevant training, giving parents peace of mind.

OFSTED registration is voluntary unless a nanny is providing home-based childcare for multiple families (nanny share). Many high-quality nannies choose to register to enhance their employability and offer families additional financial benefits.

Do you recommend having a potential nanny meet our children at the first meeting?

At The Nanny Collective, we recommend that the initial interview be a one-on-one conversation between the parents and the nanny. This is often conducted via video call on WhatsApp, FaceTime, or Zoom. If you feel the nanny could be a good fit, we suggest arranging a second, in-person interview where they can meet your children and discuss key details such as salary, accommodation (for live-in roles), and the full scope of the position.

You may also wish to include a paid trial day as part of the interview process, either combined with the second meeting or scheduled separately. Trials are intended to help assess the nanny’s suitability, and for safety reasons, we advise that nannies are not left alone with the children at any point during the trial or interview process.

At The Nanny Collective, we strive to make hiring a nanny a seamless and positive experience while prioritizing your child’s safety, well-being, and happiness.

Are your nannies DBS checked?

Yes — all nannies placed through The Nanny Collective are fully Enchanced DBS checked, interviewed, and reference-checked for your peace of mind.

Do you provide temporary or emergency cover?

Absolutely! We offer emergency and short-term nanny placements for families in need of last-minute support or temporary cover.

What areas do you cover?

We currently place nannies across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, and London — with new areas opening up as we grow!

Can you help with night nannies or newborn care?

Yes — we work with a network of night nannies and maternity specialists experienced in supporting new parents, newborn routines, and sleep training.

What happens if it doesn’t work out with our nanny?

We offer a free replacement period (outlined in your terms) to ensure you’re matched with the right nanny for your family. We’ll always support you through the transition.
