Additional costs
Additional costs to consider
1. Nanny Employment Costs
Once a nanny is placed, they become your employee. This means you’ll be responsible for:
• Gross Salary (agreed directly with your nanny)
• Employer’s National Insurance
• Holiday Pay
• Pension Contributions (if eligible)
We always recommend using a nanny payroll service such as NannyTax or Nannytax+ for support with legal obligations and PAYE setup.
⸻
2. Enhanced DBS Check (if required)
All nannies placed through The Nanny Collective must hold a valid Enhanced DBS.
If a new DBS check is required, the cost is:
• £55 for the check
• Optional: £13/year to register on the Update Service (highly recommended)
⸻
3. First Aid Training (if needed)
If a nanny needs to renew or complete their Paediatric First Aid certification, this is typically at the nanny’s expense.
However, some families may choose to contribute. Average cost: £80–£120.
⸻
4. Optional Extras
Some families choose to purchase additional services:
• Trial Day Rate: If you’d like a trial day with your chosen nanny before confirming the role, the nanny should be paid directly for their time. Trial day rates usually align with the agreed hourly wage.
• Temporary or Emergency Placements: See our Fees Page for short-term placement pricing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to pay for my nanny’s tax and National Insurance?
Yes - as an employer, you are legally responsible for your nanny’s tax, National Insurance, and pension.
Are there any hidden costs in hiring a nanny?
We keep our fees transparent. Beyond our placement fee and your nanny’s salary, you might also consider payroll services, DBS checks, and insurance.
What if I want my nanny to travel with us or stay overnight?
Additional hours, overnight stays, or travel may incur extra costs, which can be agreed with your nanny in advance.
Do I need to provide food or cover travel expenses?
If your nanny is working long days, it’s considerate (but not required) to offer food. Travel expenses should be covered if your nanny uses their own vehicle for work-related trips.
